Recap of John 6:1-21
The crowds had just witnessed the miracle of God’s provision of the feeding of 5,000 people with just 5 barley loves and two fish.Jesus looked up from his position where he sat upon the mountain and saw them.He saw them during time of remembrance of the Passover, which was a memorial or an Ebeneezer if you prefer (Read Exodus 12: 21-32); after giving thanks He broke it up and gave to the disciples. How much was left over after the crowd ate sufficiently? The disciples went to gather the left over bread and fish to their surprise there were 12 full baskets leftover of the barley loves and fish pieces.
Then Jesus walked upon the waters of the sea towards the disciples in the boat who were not to far from the shore while in the midst of a strong and turbulent storm. When the disciples saw a man walking toward them they were afraid but then Jesus spoke to them and said , “It is I, don’t be afraid. Suddenly the boat came to a stop at place that they had set out to go.

When they saw him on the other side of the sea that there had been only one boat there, they said to him, “When did you come here?” Jesus answered,”Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” Then they said to him, “What must we do to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered, ” that you believe in whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that we may see and believe you? What work do you perform?” Our fathers ate manna in the wilderness ;as it is written,”He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. “They said to him, “sir, give us this bread always.”
