Growing up as children we probably all heard the nursery rhyme by Mother Goose in The Darling Kindersley book of Nursery Rhymes although this book was printed in 2000, I believe the nursery rhyme is much older than this as I heard as a kid. I searched for this poem on Google to find a source to mention here.
When I was 22 , I went to Jamaica for my third time in three years and it was my last trip going with Kevin Ross of Ross Family Ministries. I stayed at Sunbeam Boys Home in Spanish Town Jamaica as I spent a week there. All those that traveled with me got to speak or give a testimony at one of the churches in Jamaica and at this particular one, we did a prayer walk around the place we were going to meet and speak, then we had a time of worship. I was asked to share to something to this church and what I began with was something that I hoped that they all could relate to hearing as the audience was made up men, women and children following:
I began to recite this nursery rhyme to them in this way:
“Humpty dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
All the king’s horses and all the king’s men
Couldn’t put Humpty Dumpty back together again.”
But I know who can put Humpty Dumpty back together and His name is Jesus! Before I accepted Jesus’ free gift of salvation , I was convicted by His Spirit, that I was broken like Humpty Dumpty and that there was nothing I could do to bring healing about the broken pieces of my heart and soul together. Even while I spoke of Jesus in Jamaica , God told me that He would heal the broken places in my soul as well. I received Jesus as child. In my life at that time Jesus was more approachable than calling God my Father.
Isaiah 64:8 ESV
But now, O LORD, you are our Father, and we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
When I was 17 years-old I wrote the following poem.
Walls of Clay
I can’t go another day
Hidden inside these walls of clay,
Separated from your presence.
Lord, I ask right here and now
With open arms to come
and embrace me with your love.
Let me feel your joy and peace
Like the sweet dew in the morning
Renews the lilies
Renew me with Your Spirit.
Let my feet dance
Before Your holy throne
As I lift my hands to worship You.
A prayer for my readers this day, if you are feeling in any way like this poem , Walls of Clay or perhaps you feel like you can relate more with Humpty Dumpty that you are broken and there is nothing that can put you together again ask Jesus to take you into His arms and have Him mold you into a new person. I chose to ask Jesus to mold me into His image . This process was and is not easy to take but it is well worth it. So reach out to HIM this day.
