Let’s embark on a new journey in the Word together by reading the book of John in the English Standard Version. I want to start with a prayer before I even begin to pick apart and apply each facet of the Gospel of John in not just my life but the lives of you, my readers, also.
Dear Father in Heaven,
I want to thank you first for this desire to embark on this new journey in the Word and to get to know You through the first-hand eyewitness account of the gospel through the eyes of John, whom you called to testify about your love for humanity in order to bring us all into a righteous standing in your sight. May all those who join me on this journey begin to learn or rediscover Who You are through the eyes of John and then also may you open their eyes to see Who you are in them and the reason why there is such a great hope in Jesus Christ, your Son. If you just prayed that prayer with me ,let’s now begin the journey as we take a close look at the account of John.
If you do not have a BIBLE then I suggest that you go to http://www.biblegateway.com or the You Version App on your smart phone or computer. I prefer using a real book as opposed to a computer screen however I also use these sites as well.
Now, let’s begin this journey through the eyes of John by reading John 1:1-5 ESV.
List or highlight all the words that come to your mind to describe a facet of Who God is for example: Word and Light etc.
What are the questions that come to your mind when you read these verses in John 1:1-5?
Write them down below and/or answer mine.
In what ways do I exhibit life in God?
in what areas in my life is GOD shining His light to expose the darkness of sin in my life?
In what ways does God shine His light in the earth today to expose the darkness of sin in the earth?
Read Genesis chapters 1-3 and list the ways in which God is described and compare it with you have read in John 1:1-5.
Go Deeper: Look up the following words in a Greek & Hebrew Lexicon or Strong’s Concordance
Hebrew word for :
The Word and how does it describe God.
Close today’s journey in the WORD by reflecting on Who The Word is? Who the Light is? Who the spoken Word is. Consider closing with prayer and thanksgiving of who God is as He relates to your own life.
