Isaiah, 21:1-10

Read Isaiah 21:1-10 in the ESV and the AMPC (Amplified Classic Bible on a Bible Application on your smart phone or computer.)

Compare the two translations while answering the following group discussion Questions:

  1. Where are the following locations Negeb, Elam and Media both in Isaiah’s time and now?

2. Give a description of what Isaiah saw, heard and felt in this chapter making a list of comparisons and similarities of both translations?

Fill in the Blank from Isaiah 21:4 ESV.

My________ staggers, horror has appalled me; the twilight that I longed for has been turned for me into______________.

Now, Fill in the Blank from Isaiah 21:4 AMPC.

My _________ reels and wanders, horror terrifies me. [ In my mind’s eye I am at the feast of ________________. I see the defilement of the golden vessels taken from ________ temple. I watch the ____________________ appear on the wall- I know that Babylon’s great king is to be slain.] The twilight I looked forward to with pleasure has been turned into fear and trembling for me.

Why do you suppose that the AMPC with its description of what Isaiah saw in this vision in the Isaiah 21:4 is not mention in the ESV translation?

Where else in the Bible do we read about what Isaiah saw in the AMPC concerning Isaiah 21:4? List all the references you can find and does it fulfill the prophetic word/vision of what the LORD showed Isaiah?
