Isaiah, Woe to the Wicked


Read Isaiah 8:8-12 Amplified and NIV and ESV

Isaiah 8:8-9 Amplified

Woe to those who join house to house [and by violently expelling the poorer occupants enclose large acreage] and join field to field until there is no place for others and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land. In my [Isaiah’s] ears the Lord of hosts said, ” Of truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and beautiful ones shall be without inhabitants.

Isaiah 5:12 NIV

They have harps and lyres at their banquets, tambourines, flutes and wine but they have no regard for the deeds of the LORD, no respect for the work of his hands.

Is this the condition that we find ourselves in today within the church as well society as a whole. Explain your answer.

How many times do we as believers in Christ live for thrills and the things that tickle our ears but have a total disregard for HIS Ways, Deeds, Truth and Correction?

When the LORD has done a great deed among us, like healing, do we sit there and praise HIM for it or do we take the credit?

Without realizing it, His people will go into captivity and exile, for they have no knowledge of the LORD. The honored men will go hungry and the multitude will go thirsty as a parched land.

In what ways has the nation in which you live, has gone into spiritual captivity and exile.

Summarize Isaiah 5:14-15 in your own words.

How has mankind been brought low and humbled more importantly how have you been humbled by the LORD?

Isaiah 5:16-17 ESV

But the LORD of Hosts is exalted in justice, and the Holy God shows himself holy in righteousness. Then shall the lambs graze as in their pasture and nomads eat among the ruins of the rich.

In what ways has the LORD of HOSTS shown Himself holy in righteousness in your life?

How have you proclaimed and exalted the LORD over HIS Justice and correction in your own life?
