What does the following statement mean to you? What does it mean to be giving your all? How is that answer reflected in your life?
Now let’s read the following passage below from Mark 12:41-43 New International Version The Archaeological Study Bible Published by Zondervan Copyright 2005
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd put in their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor widow came and put in two very small coins, worth only the fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ” I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. They gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, -put in all that she had to live on.”
This is what I have gleaned from this passage.
The widow gave her all for she had put in all that she had to live on.
I live on a fixed income and there are many times where I would like to support others beyond the tithe I give on my income to my church so in these instances I have been drawn by the LORD to pray for the ones that I would like to support monetarily. I feel that at times the desire to do more but the LORD has said to me, “The prayers that you pray are vital for the ones you desire to support monetarily, for I am using you to go to battle in this way and support them.”
Just as the LORD does not look on outward appearance to determine whom HE will choose as instrument to further His work in the world, so also HE judges the motives of the heart. (see 1st Samuel 16:7)
There are more ways one could give their all to the LORD:
Giving the LORD your time.
Giving the LORD your talents for HIS glory.
Going before the LORD in prayer to intercede on behalf of others.
I am not saying this is as opt-out of giving the tithe as someone once told me, “It is either tithe or go broke by doing so.” In fact quite the opposite is true in my experience. I’ve been broke when I have not tithed in some form of fashion to the LORD.
What motivates you in giving your tithes of your money, time, talent and prayer?
Pray! Seek! Reflect!
