Prayer Closet

Where in your home is your prayer closet? Where do you go to have a time with the Lord? Do you have a favorite spot in town that you like to walk and pray?

I am going to share some stories of my favorite prayer closet encounters with you to inspire and encourage you to pursue the Lord with all that you are.

Encounter #1 Journal Book time

During my high school years I found that writing in a journal on specific topics during a class was not always the easiest for me especially when I was assigned topics. I enjoyed the free topic times and sometimes in my class journal I would write poetry. Where am I going with this? Let me tell you that in the year of 2009 I began a prayer journal when I received a blank Journal for Christmas that year from a friend. Since then I have kept a prayer journal however, I do not always write my prayers out in a journal but when I do write them out and go back review what I have either prayed or wrote what the Lord spoke to me about in the journal, I can see how they are answered. I can see how my love and faith in HIM has grown over the years.

Encounter #2 Secret Sister time

What is secret sister, one might ask? Well, I will tell you what it’s all about. I have done this with a group of women at my church over the years. I am doing it now as a matter of fact. Those that want to participate come to together have refreshments and fill out the questions on a piece of paper. This paper gets folded up and put into a bucket or basket for each person to draw out the name of their sister. There is an allotted time that we select to have this sister for either 6 months or 1 year. The questions that would be on the paper would go something like the following:

Name Address Birthday Anniversary Favorite Foods/Snacks Favorite Books/Movies Collectibles Prayer Requests

The main thing about secret sister is that you pray for the sister that you chose from the basket. During the time allotted to participate whether it is 6 months or a 1 year, you may bless your sister with either a note , a card or a gift to let them know that you are thinking of them and praying for them. At the end of the allotted time we have a reveal party in which you personally give a gift to the person you drew and they find out who you are.

Encounter #3 Testimony of the last time I did Secret Sister. For the skeptics who may think that the LORD is not in the choosing of the name of your sister.

The last time I did secret sister it was for a year. I actually started to pray for my secret sister whomever it was going to be last year in a prayer journal on the Saturday before I chose a name. A sister got up and gave a testimony about the very things that I prayed and then I chose this same sister’s name that night. I prayed for her and gave her truffles, a book and some cards. When the 1 year was up, I gave her the Journal that I wrote my prayers for her in and suggested that she fill in the rest of the journal with her own prayers.

I encourage you to take the time each day pray for the those that are in your everyday life and maybe even keep a journal to reflect back on. Just see what the LORD will do in your prayer life with that!
