The Heart of a Teacher

Do you have a heart of a teacher? I believe that if you have the heart of a teacher then you must have a desire and heart of being a student of the written word of God. I have withdrawn from teaching sometimes because I felt like my heart was not that of a student. What I mean by that is that I felt distant from God at those times in my life and I questioned HIM. I hard a time believing that my witness of HIM in my life was genuine. Was I just living on what I believed without any evidence of it in my life.

If you have a strong will like I have always had then know this for certain: you will encounter circumstances in your life that are designed for you to come into submission of God in your life. I have been through many seasons of these circumstances and sometimes I was going around the same mountain but with different circumstances.

There are three things that others have encouraged me in and they are:

  1. Seek and Follow Jesus in all things.
  2. Do not take what you have heard others as the truth of God. You must know and study the Bible yourself in order to deepen your faith. One could easily be mislead just by going on what someone tells you.
  3. This last one is for me to keep writing.

The following are things I have learned by experience through my walk with Jesus and teaching children in Sunday School.

  1. When I have taught Sunday School I would inevitably have to learn the lesson myself. One of my lessons was on the Widow with the two mites (Coins) found in Mark 12:41-43. She only had two cents yet she gave it in the offering and Jesus said that she gave more than what others had. I told the kids that even the knowledge that they had about Jesus was more than what others had. The Lord loves a generous giver but the Lord looks at the heart in all things. The Lesson for me was that what I have taught the kids is far more valuable in the eyes of the Lord than money. Yes, God desires you tithe but with what heart attitude are you doing it with.
  2. I have often given a lesson then asked the kids questions but then one Sunday I asked the kids if they had any questions. I got asked, “What does it mean to pray and how does one do it with God. This child is now a teen and prays with all his heart . I was moved a great deal when he prayed on Sunday!
  3. Are you as a teacher of the Word moved to pray for those you teach or have taught about Jesus? I am often moved to pray for the children and some are now are adults or currently married with kids. The Lord would often bring them to mind and if I have asked about them I have learned that they needed it at that time. So, if the Lord brings anyone to your mind. Seek the Lord and pray for them as the Lord would lead you to.

Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
