Reflection: Sit A While With ME

A whisper of my name

In the stillness of the night

Jesus, the Lover of my soul

Beacons me to come

And sit awhile at His feet

My soul comes to rest

In His word

I hear the words on the page

As I read them as though He was reading to me

I am reading from the first two chapters In first John

Instead of reading “we” and “you” in the passage

I hear the words, “I” , “me” , and my full name

The passage as it is written: 1st John 1:8- 2:2 NIV

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves,

and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins,

He is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us

from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned,

we make Him out to be a liar and His word has no place in our lives.

My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin.

But if anyone does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense-Jesus Christ the Righteous One.

He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins and not only for ours but for the sins of the whole world.

My heart is broken at this point by the things

That the Lord has allowed me to see about my own life

The Lord has called me His child, I have been marked by His ownership of me.

Yet my heart is divided because of the draw of my flesh and the world.

My heart longs for satisfaction, appreciation and value

When I do receive those things from people my heart is glad for a while but it quickly disappears

I know where all these things can be fulfilled

And so my soul,

Confess this day that it is only God who is Enough

Everything that you try to latch onto in this world will fade

And only Faith, Hope and Love will remain

In Jesus Christ alone will I glory.
