July 16, 2013 Things To Ponder

Today, while I was reading Psalm 18 some verses struck out at me to make me think. I would to share them with you and my thoughts on them.

Psalm 18:28-35 ESV

28 For it is you that light my lamp; the LORD my God lightens my darkness.

29 For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall.

30 This God-his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him.

31 For who is God but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?-

32 The God who equipped me with strength and made my way blameless.

33 He made my feet like the feet of a deer and set me secure on the heights.

34 He trains my hands for war, so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

35 You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your right hand supported me, and your gentleness made me great.

My thoughts on Psalm 18:28-35

While David wrote this Psalm when the Lord rescued him from all his enemies and from the hand of  Saul; this reminds me of all that the LORD has rescued me from. These verses bring me great assurance that I have been made secure and set on the heights of Heaven though I live here on the earth through my salvation in Jesus Christ. It is the LORD who initiates my salvation and understanding of scripture. It is the LORD who brings HIS LIGHT through the power of the Holy Spirit and expels the darkness. The shield of my salvation is  Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit living in me supports me. It is God who trains me who for war and that battle is fought with not a bow of bronze a worldly weapon but with spiritual weapons such as prayer along with those found in Ephesians 6:10 -20. This battle is also a spiritual battle and not with flesh and blood.

Psalm 18:39 ESV

39 For you equipped me with strength for battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.

This verse brings me great joy for knowing that everyday I pray the LORD makes my enemies sink under. I do not need to fear for the LORD has equipped me with HIS strength.

In reflecting on these scriptures I have begun a 52 week plan to read the whole Bible within that time. I actually started this plan three days ago.

May the LORD bless each of my readers today and may they be encouraged in some way by this blog posting. In the Name of Jesus Christ I pray Amen.
