V1 The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not lack.

What does a Shepherd do?  A Shepherd is one who tends, feeds or guards flocks of sheep. So this verse says to me that The Lord is the One who takes care of me, feeds and provides for me, and guards my steps. I shall not lack because He provides everything.

V2 He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still water.

He has everything that I need. There is safety as He leads me through this life for He has already been there and knows what will occur.

V3 He refreshes and restores my life; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.

Through His Holy Spirit I am refreshed and through the sacrifice that Jesus paid on the cross for my sin; He has restored my life. As I seek His direction in my life He will lead me in the path of righteousness.

V4 Yes, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me; Your rod and staff , they comfort me.

As I live this life on the earth and face trials and temptations; I have no need to fear For God is with me.

V5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with      oil; my cup runs over.

You have baptized me with Your Holy Spirit and may it overflow into the lives of others.

V6 Surely goodness, mercy, and unfailing love shall follow me all the days of my life and through the length of my days the house of the Lord shall be my dwelling place.

Lord this is my heart’s desire to be forever in the presence of my Lord all the days of my life here on earth.
