Passion For Purity

Christians that live in this world today have a great calling to live in purity. The word purity encompasses more meaning than just a stance on abstinence. The word purity is a noun and has five definitions two of which are uniformity and freedom from sin and guilt. The verb of this word is pure and it has fourteen definitions two of which are having a uniform composition; not mixed and being faultless, sinless.

The word pure comes from the Latin purus. What does this have to do with being a Christian in today’s culture where good moral values have gone out the window? What does mean to you as a Christian Woman? The single and the married woman?

As a young Christian woman myself I have wondered about these questions. I decided to do some research to see what my role in this world is regarding purity. The word purity appears many times in scripture regarding both spirit and body. In first Timothy 4:12 the young are encouraged to let no one look down on them but to set an example for the believers in speech, in life, and in purity. I used this verse as a my senior quote in my high school year book. How do set an example of purity to a world who mocks you for having good morals? We are told in first Timothy 5 verses 1 and two to treat older men as fathers, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers and younger women as sisters in all purity. Treat them with respect and not with lustful desires of the flesh. Remaining pure in Spirit will help you remain pure in body. How do suppose that happens? Keeping our focus on the Lord and not what we can get from another person. Have genuine care and respect for other people and consider them above your own needs. This one is hard for me at times because I would rather have some do things for me rather than have to do them for it is housework. What is it for you? We need to have pure motives when we help people and not indulge in fantasies and gossip. As it is the motto for mychurch. “Therfore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. ” 1st Thessalonians 5:11
When an unbelivers  look at a Christian what do they see us do in relation to the Word of God? Do we reflect in unision what we believe is the literal word of God? Paul warns us not to have divisions among the Christian Church but if there are divisions it is to show the purity of the true believers. So let us live and act in one accord as the body of Christ.
