Learning From King Saul

I have been reading in the book of 1st Samuel recently and decided to share what I have learned from reading.

Samuel gave Saul a command in 1st Samuel 10:8
1. Go before Samuel to Gilgal.
2. Wait seven days for Samuel to come meet with him at Gilgal.

Samuel told Saul that he would come to Gilgal and offer burnt offerings and to sacrifice peace offerings.

In chapter 13 we find that Saul and the Israelites were encamped at Gilgal and would come face- to – face with the Philistines in battle.
The Israelites became fearful and hid themselves in caves, holes, pits, tombs etc. Saul stayed at Gilgal and waited seven days but when Samuel did not come at the appropriate time Saul decided he would offer the burnt offerings and sacrifice the peace offerings which only the priest could do. He disobeyed Lord. As a result Samuel told that his kingdom would be given to another and this one had a heart after the Lord’s own heart.

So where is the lessons that I have learned through all this.
1. There are consequences and punishment for not obeying the Lord. Saul Kingdom was given to another.
2. When pressed into tight and stressful situations I need to depend on God. I need to not only trust Him with my present and future situations but I also need to obey Him and follow His directions for my life.
3. I do not need to be afraid or ashamed of anything because God is in control. The Israelites saw the size of the Philistine army and were afraid and hid themselves.
4. I need to have a heart after God’s own heart.
